While you can now try copying all files to another disk, this may result in lots of errors, and you may also not get all files that are still theoretically recoverable. i have checked with my leopard disk and it does boot from that DVD. my review here

Might be a win-win in that I have my stuff backed up in three places, but if the drive is bad, I still have the cloud and another external drive. ^^My Any way to recover? I do but, it's always a good idea to have an emergency drive like this. And it also seems like most folks who want to help just can't believe that the failed drive is totally useless.

That's what I ended up doing. Disk Utility Error A Disk With A Mount Point Is Required I open disk utility and select the source and the destination. See Repair disk from single user mode (fsck fails) and the fsck_hfs man page for details.

up vote 5 down vote When you plugin a damaged Apple_HFS disk into Mavericks/Yosemite it runs fsck_hfs on its own.
