I was unaware of this thread, but doubt it would have helped because the Mac (Mini, 16 GB RAM, 500 GB 7200 RPM drive) took minutes just to type a word. If you are going to end up getting a new computer, the USB 3 model will be sufficient. I also tried disk utility, didn't work. Not sure if the batch file worked or not but it was exciting to see what happened to the Mac. Thank you so much for this info. Also, if you could format a flash drive with the newer NTSF format, if would not work on a Mac without additional software.
