Once you get the disc, boot off it by holding down the 'C' key while your Mac starts up. The thing is my warranty runs out in about 10 days so if it is hardware I need to get it sorted.. is this with an OS X disk? Did you see the date fof this thread?

disk should report any problems, have you tried the apple hardware test disc? You may have salvaged it for now, but with 2.5″ HDD prices being under $100 these days (even their SSD cousins are coming down) you might as well drop the coin I found out it had disk0s2: I/O error. I ran Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions, but it still gets stuck. They will network with them, but the software may not run, and worse the GUID formatting that defaults on an Intel Mac can't be used on a PowerMac. Keep repeating the above process until ***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***** does not appear. do you know of any other hardware testing software available?
